A successful NuvaRing lawsuit can help a victim of this dangerous medical device potentially recover medical expenses and receive compensation for the pain and suffering it caused. Damages received depend on numerous factors, including the extent of injuries and other losses suffered.
First NuvaRing Lawsuit
In 2008, a New Jersey man became the first person in America to file a NuvaRing lawsuit. His wife had died after suffering severe seizures due to pulmonary embolism attributed to use of the vaginal ring. A multitude of lawsuits followed.
NuvaRing Lawsuits Consolidated
With the growing number of lawsuits filed and so many more expected, NuvaRing cases have been consolidated for pretrial proceedings before U.S. District Judge Rodney Sippel in the Eastern District of Missouri as a multidistrict litigation. The formal case is In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri.
A trial for the first group of NuvaRing lawsuits is set to begin in May 2013. The outcome of these ‘bellwether cases’ will set a precedent for other trials to come.
Although consolidated, the lawsuits are not a class action lawsuit. The court considers each mass tort case individually.
